A Book on Every Bed

What could be better for a child during the holidays, be it Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or Christmas, than to find a new book on his or her bed? Amy Dickinson (of the "Ask Amy"column), is spear-heading this unique literacy campaign (in her Dec. 8th column) to put "A Book on Every Bed." If you know a child you'd like to do this with, it's very simple:

1. Just take a book (doesn't have to be new, can be passed down). 2. Wrap it. 3. Put it on a child's bed so it is the first thingthe child will see on the holiday morning. This is a wonderful way to spread the love of reading from parents to children, and encourages families to share books by reading aloud. For more on this and on literacy and encouraging reading, see: http://www.familyreading.org/.
