Explore the Seas Online

While you're making a splash with reading this summer,
you can also explore the oceans with your mouse online:

to dive to the deepest part of the ocean, you just need a computer and
Google Earth 5.0, to access the virtual ocean .

Just set it up: Download Google Earth at earth.google.com.
Install & download the program, then check off the Ocean layer
(make sure Terrain is selected).

Once you are set up, then you can:

--check out expeditions of the Couteau Society (click
on an icon of Jacques Couteau with his red cap).

-- see what the ocean looks like through the eyes of its creatures,
click on any animal icon and play the simulation that pops up.
Ones you'll want to look at: bluefin tuna in the Atlantic, and
sea lion in the Pacific (both endangered by overfishing).

Ahoy Matey! Next Saturday Storytime

A drop-in storytime with a nautical theme will be held on:

Saturday, July 31st, at 10:30 - 11 AM

For ages 2 - 8, no sign-up required.
Tolland storytimes are free and open to out-of-town residents.

Mystic Acquarium Touch Tank

Mystic Aquarium will visit the library with their touch tank, a living classroom that brings the Aquarium to you, on Friday, July 30th, from 1 to 3 PM.
Museum staff will help students discover and learn about the wonders of life in the ocean, including: lobsters, horseshoe crabs, sea stars and shellfish.
Parents with children in grades 1 to 3 may sign up for 1 PM - 2 PM;
grades 4 to 6 may sign up for 2 PM - 3 PM.
Sign-up is limited to 30 for each group.

Author at Storytime

Local author Dot Voyer will present her new book "The Big Jump"
at the drop-in summer storytime on Wednesday, August 6th,
at 10:15 AM. No sign-up is required; for ages 2 - 5.

Tolland Library storytimes are free and open to out-of-town
residents.

Sharon Family Farm Petting Zoo

Tolland's own Sharon Family Farm Petting Zoo will visit the library
on Friday, August 6th, from 10:30 - 12:00 PM. Sign up is requested;
